Summary: Book 2 in the Ranger's Apprentice series, Will, his long time friend Horace, and Ranger Gilan are on a mission from the ranger corps. On their journey they make a chilling discovery, a small village has completely disappeared. Wanting answers, the trio follow the clues that were left behind to find out that Morgarath, a vengeful former baron, has had a plan fifteen years in the making that will wipe the kingdom of Araluen off the face of the earth.


Suggested age rating: 12+ based on minor language, intense fighting sequences, and frightening creatures.


Review: This book immediately starts off with a bang. There are no lulls during the entire book and the constant momentum keeps you wanting to read more. It even has an air of mystery about it to keep you guessing. Being a little hesitant on wanting to read this book, I was so grateful I did as this book is currently my favorite in the series.

Indecency/Sex: A man is mentioned urinating, nothing graphic.


Violence and Gore: Many creatures and people are stabbed, shot with arrows, and killed which are described in detail.


Frightening Scenes: Strange creatures are present throughout.


Substance Abuse: A man is mentioned drinking alcohol.


Spiritual Content: A temple is mentioned and a group of individual's believe in various gods.


Genres: Fantasy, fiction, young adult.
