Summary: Book 3 in the Ranger's Apprentice series, Will and Princess Cassandra, undercover as Evanlyn, are captives on a wolfship on their way to Skandia. On their travels they end up stranded on a small island before landing in Skandia and becoming slaves of the Oberjarl. Feeling responsible for their capture, Halt goes after his apprentice and is accompanied by the young warrior apprentice Horace who's skills fighting countless knights along their journey start to draw unwanted attention. Suggested age rating: 14+ based on some language, minor fighting sequences, and some sexual references.

Review: A slower book than the last, but the author does a good job of splitting the book between two separate storylines that are taking place. This structure for the novel helps keep the pacing and makes the reader enjoy and appreciate the importance of both sides and characters involved. One of the most prominent themes that I enjoyed and was grateful that the author included was how the strength and courage multiple of the characters had when facing very difficult obstacles.

Language: 15 da** and 7 he**.

Indecency/Sex: Mentions of a character being born from a sleazy woman, a character eludes to a minor girl being wanted by multiple men for sex very brief and will most likely go over young readers heads, women are described as wearing short skirt and beckon to a young male teen since this is a medieval book the short skirts are barely above the knee.

Violence and Gore: Many fights and battles occurs between men where they are injured or killed, men in cages are described as bloody and dying with birds having plucked out their eyes, a rabbit is hunted where its leg is broken then its neck is rung.

Frightening Scenes: Men are in cages as previously mentioned and the description may be a bit intense for young readers.

Substance Abuse: Drinking alcohol is present and characters being drunk is common, some minors drink, young boys are addicted to drugs and deal with its drawbacks such as convulsions and screaming in agony.

Spiritual Content: A group of people believe in multiple gods.

Genres: Fantasy, fiction, young adult, medieval.
