Summary: Book 4 in the Ranger's Apprentice The Royal Ranger series, the King of Gallica seeks the help of King Duncan to rescue his son, the prince, from the clutches of Baron Joubert de Lassigny who wishes to take the throne. Knowing the fragile relationship between the two kingdoms, Duncan has Will and his apprentice Maddie go undercover as father and daughter jongleurs to find the prince and rescue him before Gallica breaks out into war.
Suggested age rating: 12+ based on minor violence and minimal language.
Review: This novel I would consider on of the slower side of the previous installments in the Ranger's Apprentice series, but regardless of the pace of the book it was still enjoyable. I appreciated the reappearance of Maddie and Will's teacher-apprentice relationship reminiscent of the first book's mission as well as an adventure with a clear goal in mind but goes slightly awry. If you enjoyed the 5th book, The Sorcerer in the North, you will love this book as well as it follows the flow and plot very similarly while also having characters you enjoy from the series.
