Ranger's Apprentice: The Sorcerer in the North

Summary: Book 5 in the Ranger's Apprentice series, Will is finally a full fledged ranger off on his first mission to investigate strange occurrences happening in the Grimsdell Forest just outside the northernmost fief. As he begins his investigation while staying at the fief he realizes there is something unusual about the king's mysterious illness. When Will's friend Alyss shows up to help, they realizer there is sinister plot brewing and race to help the ailing king even if that means going to the sorcerer for help.


Suggested age rating: 14+ based on some language, intense fighting sequences, frightening creatures, and mild sexual references.


Review: The book was decent, but a little more on the slow side. This book is also quite darker than the previous few, but the plot and the mystery that unfolds during the course of it along with the kingdom rivalry made it a good read.


Language: 3 bi*** (meant as a female dog term), 15 da**, and 5 he**.


Indecency/Sex: Some sexual innuendoes. Mention of a man picking a woman's butt, a man and woman kiss, a man kisses a woman's hand, a song is titled a man's pants falling down, and a woman changes her shirt in front of a man though she does wear an undershirt, the man glimpses her bare shoulders.


Violence and Gore: A dog is bloody and injured, animal abuse, several men a killed and injured with multiple weapons.


Frightening Scenes: Strange people will ailments and disfigurements are present, a forest is haunted with strange voices, a huge shadow figure, and floating lights. A sorcerer creates fake monsters and demons to frighten a character.


Substance Abuse: Many characters drink alcohol.


Spiritual Content: Many mentions of sorcery and some mentions of gods and demons.


Genres: Fantasy, fiction, young adult.
